Four IER students earned their master’s degrees on March 25, 2026

The Fukushima University Graduation Ceremony was held, and the following students from the Major in Environmental Radioactivity, Graduate School of Symbiotic Systems Science and Technology, completed the master’s program and were awarded their master’s degrees: SUGENO Haruto, HOSHI Shota, and MASHIKO Atsushi from the Wada Laboratory, and YOSHIDA Asahi from the Hirao Laboratory. The thesis titles of the graduates are as follows:

SUGENO Haruto: Identifying river use patterns and factors influencing 137Cs accumulation in Japanese seabass from Fukushima Prefecture

HOSHI Shota: Seasonal changes in 137Cs concentrations and diet of masu salmon in the Ukedo River system

MASHIKO Atsushi: Elucidating factors affecting 137Cs transfer in Japanese eel based on laboratory and field data

YOSHIDA Asahi: Investigating the spatio-temporal variations of atmospheric Rn-222 and its progenies in East Asia using atmospheric transport model simulations

Furthermore, Mr. Sugeno received the President’s Award in recognition of his outstanding research achievements. While beginning his professional career this April, he also enrolled in the doctoral program and continues his research at the IER. Congratulations to Mr. Sugeno, Mr. Hoshi, Mr. Mashiko, and Mr. Yoshida on earning their degrees. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
