March 24, 2023, Two IER students earned their master’s degrees.

From the Major in Environmental Radioactivity of Graduate School of Symbiotic Systems Science and Technology, Rika Kawahara from Torii Laboratory and Sam Koh Boon Kiet from Hirao Laboratory have successfully completed their master’s programs.

Kawahara has studied for two years the radiation imaging with a focus on field measurement and analysis in the Hamadori area using a Compton camera to visualize radiation distribution under the supervision of Project Professor Tatsuo Torii. She successfully completed the study and earned her master’s degree.

Koh, an international student from Singapore, has studied for two years the feasibility study on the advanced application of airborne radiological survey data for the estimation of atmospheric radon and its progenies under the supervision of Associate Professor Shigekazu Hirao. He successfully completed the study and earned his master’s degree.

Both Kawahara and Koh won the Promoting Decommissioning and Environmental Recovery Award for the poster session at the FY2022 JAEA Briefing Session of Sector of Fukushima Research and Development.

Furthermore, Kawahara received the Best Research Award for her poster presentation at the FY2022 Summer Seminar of the Engineering Division of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan.

Congratulations to Kawahara and Koh on earning their master’s degrees. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
